Web Design Skills

Fundamentals

  • Layout: XHTML and CSS - to the latest W3C standards.
  • Interactivity: Javascript and Flash
  • Design: Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Server-side: PHP / MySQL / Apache

Development

I usually develop on both Windows and Ubuntu using Notepad++ as an editor of choice.

Standard tools/techniques in the arsenal include Firebug, Navicat, MVC frameworks, Google Analytics, SEO, front-end optimisation and compatibility testing in the major browsers:

Dabbling with...

  • Zend Framework: used for development of all our apps at Kintek, though I do prefer the elegance of CakePHP
  • Orbited Comet server: HTTP-push server model.
  • ModX CMS: a very SEO-friendly, quality CMS.
  • Joomla: I refuse to spell it with an exclamation mark.
